The Sawmill Shop gets a Sawmill

The Sawmill Shop gets a Sawmill

When we started The Sawmill Shop in 2017, the name was simply something catchy that I felt would fit our business well. Since then, while we have worked with lumber and indeed with actual Sawmills, we never had one of our own.

Recently I got this Granberg Alaskan Mill, the smallest one they make. I have been pretty happy with it so far, I used a 2x6 to make the first cut straight and it's kept the rest straight after that. There are a couple dead red oak trees on my property I will be milling first. After that, who knows? Once I am more familiar with it I intend to offer milling services for smaller trees in the Upstate SC area. Many portable services have fairly high minimums, while we will not.

This means more handmade wood furnishings will be offered by The Sawmill Shop in the future. This will be a ways off as most lumber takes at least a year to dry. I will update this post with images of the results and more info on the Granberg mill as time goes on.
